About Carolyn

Welcome to the COMPASS Immigration Solutions blog!

Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Carolyn Watson and I’m a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant (RCIC-IRB) licensed by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants. I joined the COMPASS team in May 2025 and am the lead consultant at COMPASS Immigration Solutions.

My experience in the immigration field dates to 2006 when I began working in the nonprofit sector. Over the years I served approximately 3000 immigrants and refugees from over 35 countries, taught citizenship classes, and built education programs to prepare newcomers for their first jobs in Canada.

I knew COMPASS Refugee Centre by reputation through years of working with refugees and the organizations that support them. The launch of COMPASS Immigration Solutions as a social enterprise intrigued because the goal was to support ongoing charitable work with refugees by offering fee-based immigration services.

Having spent my nonprofit career working primarily with refugees, I was aware of the limited resources available to assist them, the type of long-term and ongoing support they require to navigate the system and rebuild their lives, and the advocacy required to ensure their voices are heard in immigration processes and policy decisions. This type of work is important to me, and I wanted to be a part of it.

The opportunity to build something that would attract clients primarily because their money would contribute to the work of COMPASS Refugee Centre resonated with my support for the work of nonprofits and the needs of the community. This is about more than donating, it’s about choosing which business to invest in and understanding the impact that investment will have.

Today’s post is an opportunity for me to introduce myself so you can learn a little about me. Moving forward, this blog will allow COMPASS Immigration Solutions to share knowledge and insight into Canada’s immigration system, programs, and the challenges faced by those trying to navigate it all.

Some of the topics I’ll be posting about soon include updates to the temporary policy on work permits and changing employers; proposed changes to the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program; and Express Entry insights.

If you’re curious about Canada’s immigration system, participating in it as an employer or applicant, or if you’re sponsoring family, this is your go-to place for the information you need to understand the issues. And if there’s another topic or issue that is important to you that you would like to learn more about, please let me know so I can address it here!
